Wuthering Waves Gacha System Explained: How It Works

Unlock powerful characters and expand your adventure.

Among the many reasons to engage with Wuthering Waves, the gacha system stands out as one of the biggest draws. Beyond the thrill of testing one’s luck, this mechanic provides an opportunity to unlock a variety of characters.

Once obtained, these characters can be used for both combat encounters and open-world examination, expanding the range of gameplay possibilities. For those interested in lifting objects or breaking specific rocks, locating the Levitator within Wuthering Waves will be necessary.

Understanding the Convene System

Upon unlocking the gacha system, players will come across multiple banners, each functioning independently without sharing a pity system. Every banner serves a distinct purpose, making it crucial to determine the most beneficial one to summon from.

Updated on May 31, 2024, by Sanyam Jain: To compensate for launch-related issues, the developers of Wuthering Waves have introduced a new Beginner’s Choice banner. This update includes details on how to claim a free five-star character through this special event.

How to Wish in Wuthering Waves

Summoning in Wuthering Waves isn’t accessible from the very start of the game. Players begin their journey as a Rover with Amnesia, alongside Yangyang and Chixia, progressing through an early battle against an important boss before reaching the main city.

Within this city, players will first encounter Sanhua, who introduces several key utilities such as the Levitator and the Sensor. The next phase involves a visit to a research laboratory, where players meet Mortefi and later Baizhi. After completing the conversation with Baizhi, the Convene system will unlock automatically.

Novice Convene Banner Guide

The first banner available upon unlocking the Convene system is the Novice Convene Banner. Lustrous Tides must be used for summons here, and players benefit from a 20% discount on every ten-pull, meaning they can obtain ten summons while only consuming eight Lustrous Tides.

Within 50 pulls, one of the following standard five-star Resonators is guaranteed to appear:

  • Encore
  • Jianxin
  • Lingyang
  • Calcharo
  • Verina

Once a five-star character is obtained from this banner, it disappears permanently. The pity system on this banner does not carry over to any other banners. If a player reaches 49 pulls without summoning a five-star character, the 50th pull will guarantee one.

Each summon on this banner has the following probability rates:

Five-star chance: 0.8%

Four-star chance: 6%

Three-star chance: 93.2%

These percentages remain the same across all banners in the game. Any four-star summoned from this banner may be either a Resonator or a weapon.

Spending Astrite on this banner is strongly discouraged, as it remains available until a five-star character has been acquired.

Beginner’s Choice Convene Banner Guide

What makes this banner particularly appealing is the ability to select a specific five-star character. However, it only becomes available after obtaining a five-star character from the Novice Convene Banner, which then disappears. The summon rates for weapons and Resonators are identical to those of the Novice Banner.

The pity threshold for obtaining a five-star character on this banner is set at 80 summons, meaning up to 80 Lustrous Tides might be required to secure the desired character.

As soon as a five-star character is obtained, the banner is removed. Similar to other banners, the pity system does not transfer between different banners.

How to Use the Voucher of Reciprocal Tides

Players who recently started Wuthering Waves may notice a Voucher of Reciprocal Tides in their inventory after unlocking the gacha system.

Understanding its use is essential to maximize its benefits. This voucher can be redeemed through a special Beginner’s Choice Convene Banner found within the gacha menu.

Unlike the standard Beginner’s Choice Convene, this version does not require Astrite or normal pulls. Instead, it allows for a single free summon, guaranteeing the selected five-star character. Players can claim this benefit until May 22, 2025.

Event Convene Banners Guide

Among the different banners in Wuthering Waves, Event Convene banners are considered the most desirable. These are divided into two categories: Character and Weapon banners. Character Event Convene introduces a time-limited character, available exclusively through this banner upon its initial release.

Weapon Event Convene features a signature weapon tailored specifically for the current featured character. Each Event Convene remains active for approximately three weeks.

Once the event ends, neither the limited character nor weapon can be obtained again unless reintroduced in a future rerun.

For players aiming to maximize their resources, especially those playing for free or with minimal spending, this is where Astrite is best utilized. While using Astrite for Waveplate refills may seem tempting, it is not an efficient long-term investment.

Although Event Convene banners operate under the same probability system and pity mechanics as others, they include a special guarantee. Each five-star summon has a 50% chance of yielding the featured time-limited character.

If this 50:50 is lost, resulting in the acquisition of a standard five-star character instead, the next five-star summon is guaranteed to be the limited character. Additionally, the pity count carries over between consecutive Character Event Convene banners.

For example, if a player makes 30 summons on one Character Event Convene without acquiring a five-star, those 30 pulls will still count towards the pity threshold on the next Character Event Convene.

A similar system applies to four-star characters, where there is a 50% probability of summoning one of the three featured four-star characters.

If this probability is lost, the next four-star summon will be guaranteed to feature one of the promoted characters.

To summon from these banners:

Character Event Convene requires Radiant Tides

Weapon Event Convene requires Forging Tides

Both Radiant and Forging Tides are priced at 160 Astrite each.

Permanent Convene Banners Guide

Another category of banners available in Wuthering Waves is the Permanent Convene Banners. These function as standard banners, similar in structure to Event Convene banners but without time restrictions. Character Permanent Convene exclusively features five-star characters.

Weapon Permanent Convene is limited to five-star weapons. Both banners require Lustrous Tides for summons and have an 80-pull pity system.

A key difference is that while Character Permanent Convene summons are randomized among standard five-star characters, the Weapon Permanent Convene allows players to select their preferred five-star weapon upon reaching the pity threshold.

Given that Lustrous Tides accumulate over time and these banners remain indefinitely available, using Astrite for summons here is strongly discouraged.

Gacha Conversion Rate

Each summon in Wuthering Waves generates special currencies that can be exchanged for various items in exclusive shops. The amount received depends on the rarity and type of item obtained:

Summoning a five-star character for the first seven times, including the initial copy, or obtaining a five-star weapon grants 15 Afterglow Corals. Once a character surpasses seven copies, this amount increases to 40 Afterglow Corals per duplicate.

Summoning a four-star character up to seven times or obtaining a four-star weapon provides three Afterglow Corals. If a character surpasses seven copies, subsequent duplicates yield eight Afterglow Corals.
Every three-star weapon obtained through gacha grants 15 Oscillated Corals.

These currencies can be used to purchase valuable items:

Afterglow Corals can be exchanged for additional summons or character Wavebands for both four-star and five-star units.
Oscillated Corals allow for the acquisition of up to six extra summons of each type per month.

For those planning to strengthen a specific limited five-star character’s Resonance Chain, saving Afterglow Corals is highly advised.
